Personalised Stationery

You will need PSP7 only to complete this tutorial, as well as a background and small tube , picture or paintbrush  for the corner.

Make sure you pay attention to the layer you are on or you will apply the wrong effect to the wrong layer!

Please remember to save regularly or you’ll curse the day you lost something because you didn’t! Believe me when I say this, there are things I have lost that took me hours to do and I still haven’t forgiven my carelessness……

Well here we go……………..hope you enjoy the creation :)

  1. Open a new transparent image 1024 x 800.

  1. Rename layer 1 as ‘background’.

  1. Create the following layers in order and name as shown:

§      Layer 2 = main

§      Layer 3 = corner

§      Layer 4 = text plate

§      Layer 5 = text

§      Layer 6 = corner pic

  1. Make sure you are on the background layer and flood fill  it with your chosen background image.

  1. With the background layer still active, double click the selection tool  to bring up the following screen. Use the settings shown:

  1. Choose OK and you should have marching ants on your layer 150 from top of image and 150 in from the left as follows:

  1. Choose a colour from your background with your colour picker and flood fill  the selected area.

Note: Now at this stage you can apply a texture to the area just coloured but for the purpose of this tut I have not done this.

  1. Whilst still selected go to effects outer bevel and use the below settings:

  1. Choose OK then selections select none.

  1.  Now select your corner layer.

  1.  Double click on your selection tool  and chose the following settings:

  1.  Chose OK. Your image should now have marching ants in the top left hand corner and look like the below:

  1.  Now choose a colour again from your background (I chose the same colour as before) and flood fill  the corner.

Note: as before you can add texture to this if you choose.

  1.  Go to effects, outer bevel and apply the following settings:

  1.  Selections, select none.

  1.  Choose your text plate layer, then double click your selections tool  and apply the following:

  1.  Click ok and you should have an image looking like below (hopefully!) :

  1.  Choose another colour from your background with your colour picker (in this instance I chose a darker one for contrast) and flood fill  your selection.

  1.  Go to effects, inner bevel and apply the following settings:

  1.  Selections select none.

  1.  Still on the same layer (text plate) go to image, rotate and apply the next settings:

  1. Now go to effects, drop shadow and apply the below settings:

  1.  Your text plate should have turned on an angle and showing a drop shadow, to look like the following:

Note: To minimise the size of this tutorial I have had to keep my graphics to a minimum so the effects may not show as clearly as they otherwise would.

  1.  Now choose your layer called text (we are nearly at the end so hold in there!) and make active.

  1.  Select your text tool  and click somewhere in the middle of the text plate (don’t be too worried at this stage if not centred correctly, as we will shift later)

  1.  Use the following settings with the colour of the text and font style you wish to have ( I chose gold #BBAA72 & Edwardian Script ITC)

  1.  Click OK.

  1.  Hover over the text until the hand shows and grab the text to centre it over the text plate.

  1.  Apply the following inner bevel to the text:

  1.  OK.

  1.  Now apply a drop shadow:

  1.  OK.

  1.  Now go to effects, illumination effects, lights and apply the following settings:

  1.  OK.

  1.  Now for the last step……..open your chosen picture to apply to the corner (or get the tube / paintbrush you have chosen ready to apply)

  1. Make active your corner pic layer.

  1.  For this tutorial I have used one of the brushes  I made and sized it to fit on the corner using the gold I applied to the text as colour. You can use something similar yourself or a chosen graphic and apply it to the corner area.

  1. Move the graphic around to a position you like and if necessary (I had to do this with mine) go to layers, arrange, move down and repeat this until graphic no longer overlaps text plate.

  1.  I then applied the inner bevel settings and drop shadow used for the text previously.

There are many things you can do with this tut, it is only limited by your imagination………….textures, different selection sizing of corner, text plate and main layers, masks, filters, just to name a few. Be creative and you’ll be surprised by the results.

That’s it!! Phew………bet you never thought it would come to an end :) Hope you enjoyed doing this tut. All you need do now is save your creation…..
