First thing you need to do is open up PSPv7. Now, depending on how large you want your original brush preset to be, you’ll need to decide for yourself how large you want to open an image. For this tutorial, we’ll start by opening a transparent image at 140 X 140.
For this tutorial, we’ll start out easy and as you practice, there are many ideas you’ll have to make your very own brushes! Go to your toolbar and open up the Spray-can, set at: Normal, Round, size = 20,
hardness = 5, Opacity = 37, Step = 25, Density = 100. Set your color to anything you want on the palette, however, since brush tips are grey scale, I advise using a hue in the grey/ black area! "Paint a nice fat heart on your transparent image!
See what I mean? It’s so flexible that you’ll be able to make a custom brush tip out of just about anything your little heart desires!
OK… we’re almost there… Now I want you to look at your top toolbar and click on "Selections". When the drop down menu shows, I want you to click on "Select All". You will now notice the "marching ants around your image!
Here’s where it really starts to come together! Go to tool menu and click on "Paintbrush". Make sure your "Tools Option dialog box" is opened! On the Tools Option dialog box, click the "Brush Types icon at the top right. Now click on "Create" and you have just created your very own, original custom brush tip! Note: If the "create" button is greyed out, make sure you didn’t miss the step where you "select all"… if you miss this important step, the create button will not work for you!
Wow, how does it feel to be able to make your very own CUSTOM original brushes… you can create just about any brush tip you want to with a little imagination! Now for fun… let’s see what we’ve done… Let’s paint a sample. Open up an image with a white background….Set your custom brush tip to the heart we have just created and play!
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial, and especially for newcomers to PSPv7, I hope this has proven to be a fairly easy tutorial to get you on your way creating original images! Have fun and practice, practice, practice!
