This tutorial was created using Paint Shop Pro version
8. You can get a 30 day trial of the program from Jasc
Software.
To begin launch PSP8 and choose file/new. Select 350
x 350 pixels, black background and 16million colors.Add a new
raster layer. Activate the selection tool and choose rectangle,
mode set at replace, feather and antialias at 0.
Near the upper left corner make a square shape with the selection
tool as shown.
Use the dropper tool and choose a tan or light brown color. I
used color #F6D484 for this tutorial. Now activate the floodfill
tool and fill the square with color. Your image should now look
like this;
Time to add some texture to this blank square. From
the menu choose Effects/texture effects/texture/Paving brick with
the following settings; size 39%, color white, smoothness 2, ambience
0, angle 299, intensity 50, elevation 31 and press OK. The image
should look like this;
Deselect the image and duplicate the layer. On this
new layer use the Move tool and move the square so that it is
overlapping the lower right corner of the square on the layer
below as shown;
Go over to the layer palette and with the duplicated
layer still activated choose Difference as the Blend mode. Turn
off the lower most layer, which is the black background layer.
To turn the layer off click on the eye image that is next to it
within the layer palette. Then activate one of the upper layers
and go to Layers merge/merge visible. You can turn the background
layer back on again by clicking on the eye image. Your image should
now look like this;
Duplicate the top layer with the image. Pull the duplicated
image over the original image at an angle as shown;
Choose Difference as the Blend mode for this layer
as well. Turn off the background layer and again go to merge/merge
visible. Turn the background layer back on. Now the image should
look like this;
