| Drawing our open curve: (toolbar segment in drawing) 1. Make a new image 300x300 pixels and fill with a color of your choice. 2. Set the materials pallette with black foreground and null background (circle with line through it) 3. Select the pen tool (shown highlighted in center of picture.) 4. Choose drawing mode (highlighted pencil) freehand curve (wiggly line highlighted) with tracking of 29. Line should be vector and line width should be 5 5. Draw as smooth a curve as you can so as to roughly copy the curve shown. Dont worry if it's slightly rough or wobbly as the curve will smooth itself when you are done. |
|
| Add your text: 1. After selecting the text tool Set the font to JaggerSF (or your personal choice) size 12 or 16, Set the type to vector, Stroke=2,color black and fill to white or yellow. Alignment=Left 2. Move your cursor to the line until you see the rocker "A" and place the A over the left hand vertical where it starts to curve. (Locate the "Y" on the image below for cursor location) 3. Enter your text making sure that the sentence is long enough to pass the end of the line. |
Rule: When vector text goes past the end of a vector line the remaining text will follow the direction the end of the line was going when it stopped: This direction is determined by the end node on the line and can be changed by entering edit mode and rotating the ends of the rotation bar to point the direction you want the rest of the text to go when it passes the end of the line. It will go in the direction of the arrow as formed by the line between the round and arrowhead ends

| Problems: Oh I Got Problems 1. I can't find both ends of the rotation bar. a. If you draw by mouse (or sometimes even a pen) you may drag the end of the line under the rest of the line. If you don't see the word "end" when you bring the edit pen cursor over what appears to be the last node that may be what happened. The easiset thing is to delete and redraw the line until you see the word "end" when you are over the node. 2. I got the word "end" but when I click on the node it only has one end of the rotation arm. a. Right click on the node then choose Node Type>Asymmetric and move the arrow head in the direction you wish the text to move. Keep the round end of the rotation bar very close to the node (to avoid changing the looks of the curve) . In the sample to the right I moved the arrowhead up from the original location and extended it as a guide as I kept the round end close to the node. If the round end doesn't move when you move the arrowhead YOU HAVE THE WRONG TYPE NODE. Right click on the node and choose Node Type>Asymmetric. |
|
| This sample is the result when I moved the rotation bar up as shown in the node explanation just above. |
|
| On this one I moved the rotation bar down from the first location. |

| Congratulations! You
now know a great deal more about text on vector lines and curves than the average PSP user. Check out the other great tutorials on this site for further advancement and amusement. |
