PAINTER 7
Page 2
To make an oil painting from our fuzzy photo, we begin just as we did for auto clone, by creating a clone and setting the clone source. Look back to the previous page if you have forgotten the steps. The first thing to do is to make the photo on the clone page faint, so that we can both see where we are going, and see the painting clearly. So first, select all the clone copy.

Now hit the Backspace key on your computer, which will remove the photo, leaving you with a blank image. Use the Edit>Fade option, as shown below, to bring back a faint copy of the photo.
Now set the two boxes on the Brush panel to
Click on the word in each box and select Cloners and Oil Brush Cloner from the lists displayed. Then on the Brushes panel set the values shown on the right on the two items shown open. You should find the cloning settings have been already set as default like that when you selected cloning. If not, check all the boxes. Set your brush size to 10 - you can do that either with the size option on the brushes panel (where it says 7.4 in the illustration), or on the brush controls panel that you have used before.
Then begin to paint over the background with long smooth strokes from left to right. Avoid the flower if you can, but do not worry if you go into the edge here and there because it will be corrected at the next stage. When you have done the whole background your clone should look as below
Now begin to paint the petals. On each one paint from the tip of the petal towards the flower centre. The direction of the strokes matters in oil painting. Because we are cloning, the colour is taken care of, but the strokes are what gives the painting its distinctive character, and they are up to you. When you have done all the petals, the picture will look something like the one below.

On the next page we will put the finishing touches to the painting.
