Here is a photo no photographer would be proud of. It is decidedly fuzzy because if it is out of focus. As photographs go, it is not a lot of use.
But it can still become an interesting piece of computer art. I am going to give you an example or two of what you can do with this photo in
Paint Shop Pro (I am using PSP 7, which is the version with the artistic and lighting effects, but earlier versions can use the Paint Engine plugin.)
PhotoImpact (I am using PI 7 for this tutorial because PI 8 is very recently launched at the time of writing, and most people may still be using PI 7. But you can do this with PI 8 or one of the earlier versions)
Painter (I am using Painter 7, and you can also use Painter 6. Versions earlier than that may not have all the tools I am using.)
The techniques I am describing are meant to whet your appetite. You will see as you work them that there are dozens of variations you can use to get completely different effects with all the programs. Use this tutorial as a springboard to experiment with your programs and find your own favourite effects.
If you work this tutorial, we should love to see what images you create, so please post them in The Plus Place.
If you have your own fuzzy photo to work with, that is fine. If you
would like to work with this one, feel free to capture the copy at the
top, or you can download a really big copy (1600x1200 pixels)
HERE. But if you use this big copy, please could you resize a copy
to not bigger than 640x480 to post in The Plus Place.
